Commercial Relationship Manager,
Carolina First Bank, Rock Hill

How Long Have You Been In The Banking Industry?
Curiously enough, my banking career began in 1993 as a part-time teller. I was just trying to get a foot in the door and pay college loans. But, after 6 months, I was recruited into a great management training program where I learned the necessary credit and sales skills for use as a commercial lender.
The program lasted nearly two years, after which I worked in several Pennsylvania markets as a commercial relationship manager to serve the lending and overall banking needs of businesses. An economic downturn in 2004 led my family to a move to York County, where I continue work as a Commercial Relationship Manager with Carolina First Bank.

What Are Some Of Your Businesses’ Toughest Challenges?
Today, it’s fair to say that banking has endured many changes. Investors have lost confidence and clients are struggling with economic downturns, all while the government becomes more involved than ever. It would be easy to become concerned, but I am fortunate to be employed by a solid company that values client relationships and works hard to partner in strengthening our community. I have the benefits of focused leadership and a real solid team of colleagues that all work hard to support each other toward a common goals.

What kind of advice would you provide to women who want to pursue a career in banking?
Banking can offer many great career paths, so understanding the many opportunities within the industry is key. Seek a financial institution that has a training program in your area of interest, and work hard to set a solid foundation for a rewarding career. Utilize the support of an encouraging mentor to offer guidance. Remain patient and open to change.

How Do You Measure Your Success (professionally)?
My professional success comes from the partnership with my business clients in meeting their needs. These clients take on great risk and work tirelessly to employ many York County residents and improve the communities we all live in. I believe they all are truly the backbone of this great country.

How Do You Balance a family (wife, child, husband, activities, work)?
My husband and son are most important to me, and life balance is my biggest guilt trip. So as a family, we work together to plan for a routine that provides for what is important to each person each week. Work, church, community and fun all play an important role. Somehow, it all works out, but I would be hard pressed without a good cleaning service and regular dinners out!

What Do You Enjoy Doing To Rejuvenate After A Long Day?
I can honestly say that my family is truly blessed with the finest friends and family. So mostly, gathering with friends and family (when they are in town) is the best rejuvenation. Laughter is the best medicine.
